Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus, showcased its impressive growth trajectory and strategic plans at Routes Europe 2024 in Aarhus. Having surpassed pre-pandemic passenger records with over 11.6 million travelers in 2023, Hermes Airports has solidified its recovery, serving a network of 150 routes across 55 airlines. Recent expansions into new markets like France and Italy, alongside strengthened services in Germany and Poland, highlight the airport operator’s commitment to expanding its reach and enhancing connectivity.

Maria Kouroupi, director of aviation development, marketing, and communication at Hermes Airports, outlined the operator’s short-term objectives to capitalize on unserved route opportunities, particularly targeting major European capitals such as Madrid, Lisbon, and Brussels. Addressing seasonal imbalances, Hermes Airports aims to bolster winter traffic, currently contributing 26% of total operations, with ambitions to increase this share to 30-35%. Kouroupi emphasized, “Cyprus offers a year-round product, and we are collaborating with tourism partners to promote the destination and its diverse offerings.”

Buoyed by recent route successes and strong airline partnerships, Hermes Airports is now poised to explore long-haul operations, eyeing opportunities both east and west of Cyprus. With clear objectives in sight, the airport operator is gearing up to enhance Cyprus’s global connectivity and reinforce its position as a dynamic hub in the Eastern Mediterranean.
