At Routes World 2024 in Bahrain, Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus, shared insights into its recent growth and goals for addressing seasonality. After reaching a record 11.6 million passengers in 2023, Hermes Airports projects further growth to 12.2 million passengers by the end of 2024. A strong start to the year saw 6.6 million passengers from January to July and a 5.7% year-over-year increase in August.

Key to this success has been expanding route options, including Wizz Air’s new year-round Larnaka-Milan service and LOT Polish Airlines’ increased flights from Larnaka to Warsaw. Additionally, Royal Jordanian launched a Pafos-Amman route, while easyJet added Nantes to its summer schedule and began a Larnaka-Amsterdam service in October 2024.

Maria Kouroupi, director of aviation development at Hermes Airports, emphasized the focus on year-round service to reduce seasonal imbalances. She highlighted recent efforts with Cyprus’ tourism authority, resulting in 300,000 additional seats for the winter season.

Looking forward, Hermes Airports aims to strengthen connectivity with European capitals like Brussels, Lisbon, and Madrid, while expanding in the German and Polish markets. Long-haul connections are also in focus, with the U.S. and Asia—particularly India—as future targets.

To enhance awareness, Hermes Airports actively promotes its new services and developments on its Routes 360 profile, aligning with its strategy to position Cyprus as a year-round destination.
