Hermes Airports Triumphs: A Robust Winter Season and Prestigious Award in 2023

Hermes Airports, the esteemed operator of Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus, has set its sights on a remarkably strong winter season for 2023-24. This anticipated success is marked by an impressive addition of 850,000 seats in the market, a significant increase compared to the winter of 2019-20.

In a remarkable display of resilience and strategic planning, over half of the routes active in the summer of 2023 have been extended into the winter season. This represents a 20% increase from the situation in 2019. Notably, Hermes Airports has adeptly compensated for the decline in traffic from Russia and Ukraine, which had previously contributed approximately 1.3 million passengers annually.

Larnaka International Airport (LCA) has experienced a surge in passenger numbers, witnessing a 69% increase in 2022 compared to the previous year. The momentum continued into 2023, with a staggering 130% rise in the first eight months alone. Since the start of the year, LCA has expanded its global reach by welcoming nine new airlines and adding exciting destinations like Bergen, Cologne, Orebro, and Verona in Europe, along with Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, and Kuwait in the Middle East.

As an exhibitor at Routes World 2023 in Istanbul and a member of Routes 360, Hermes Airports is actively pursuing enhanced air connectivity from European cities. This initiative involves close collaboration with tourism authorities and airlines. LCA, through concerted marketing efforts with airlines, regional tourism boards, and hoteliers, has invested over €2 million ($2.2 million) during 2022 and into the first eight months of 2023.

The crowning achievement for Hermes Airports in 2023 was being named the winner in the 5-10 million passenger category at the prestigious Routes Awards. Maria Kouroupi, Senior Manager of Aviation Development, Marketing, and Communications at Hermes Airports, expressed her exhilaration at this recognition. She emphasized that this award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, highlighting it as an acknowledgment from clients, customers, and the airline industry at large. This accolade is seen as a validation of their effective strategies and commitment to excellence in the aviation sector.
