Hilton plans to significantly increase its presence in Puerto Rico over the coming two years, adding nearly 10 new hotels across five brands. The new properties will be located throughout San Juan, Ponce, and Dorado.

“Puerto Rico plays a critical role in Hilton’s history, as it kick-started the company’s global growth when it welcomed Hilton’s first hotel outside the Continental United States in 1949 with the opening of the iconic Caribe Hilton,” Pablo Maturana, vice president, development, Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton, said in a statement. “Nearly 75 years later, our deep-seated commitment to Puerto Rico is as strong as ever.”

Even before the new additions to the Hilton portfolio in Puerto Rico, the island already represented the hotel company’s largest collection of properties in the Caribbean. Hilton currently operates seven properties in Puerto Rico, which amounts to more than 2,350 rooms. With the new projects, Puerto Rico also represents the largest of Hilton’s Caribbean growth markets by number of hotels.

Hilton will bring five new-to-market brands to Puerto Rico, including the first Curio Collection by Hilton, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Tru by Hilton, and Homewood Suites by Hilton. Once these additions are complete, Hilton will have 16 hotels on the Island of Enchantment, which will amount to nearly 4,400 rooms.

Highlights of the upcoming properties slated to open in Puerto Rico include:

Curio Collection by Hilton will welcome the 332-room San Juan Condado Plaza, which will involve a full renovation as part of a dual-branded conversion that involves The Condado Plaza Hilton Towers being renewed as a Curio Collection by Hilton and a Hilton Garden Inn.
The first Hilton Garden Inn hotel in Puerto Rico is expected to open later in 2023 with the 240-room Hilton Garden Inn San Juan Condado. It will be part of the dual-branded renovation and conversion of The Condado Plaza Hilton.
The first Tru by Hilton in Puerto Rico is expected to open in 2025. It will be a 77-room property located in San Juan.
Tapestry Collection by Hilton will make its debut later this year with the 186-room Condado Palm Inn San Juan.

Also, in 2025, two Hampton by Hilton properties are expected to open, one in San Juan City Center and the other in Ponce.

Puerto Rico is not the only location where Hilton is embarking on such a significant expansion. In March, Hilton announced plans for its strongest year of growth in France, with officials revealing the seven hotel openings. That figure marks the highest single-year increase to Hilton’s French portfolio. Additionally, the company also revealed that it will be expanding its presence in Colombia with the opening of Hilton Santa Marta, Hilton’s second hotel in Colombia’s oldest Hispanic city.
