Hilton to Add Digital Key Sharing Option
Hilton Worldwide soon will allow guests to share a digital key with up to four additional individuals, the company announced Wednesday.
After receiving an invitation from the primary guest, additional guests must be logged into the Hilton Honors app and pass a “security check that happens instantly in the background” to gain access to the digital key. Hilton declined to provide details on that process other than to note in an email that in 2018 it implemented a fraud check that occurs behind the scenes when a guest requests a digital key, and when a key is shared, a similar security check will occur before delivering it.
Launched in 2015, Hilton’s digital key technology now is available at close to 5,400 properties globally, more than 80 percent of its portfolio, according to the company. Hilton will roll out the ability to share keys in the coming months to all hotels currently using the digital key technology.
