Holland America and Sony Launch Alaska Photo Cruise

Holland America Line has partnered with Sony to bring guests an immersive photography experience while sailing through Alaska’s striking natural beauty. The collaboration includes exclusive onboard photography sessions, an expert-led class, and a nationwide photo contest called “Alaska Through Your Lens,” inviting travelers to share their visual perspective of the Last Frontier.
The photo sweepstakes, launched through Sony’s Alpha Universe platform, encourages cruisers and photography enthusiasts to capture Alaska’s glaciers, wildlife, and scenic coastlines. Participants can enter by registering on a dedicated site or posting photos to social media using #AlphaHALcruise and #Sweepstakes. The grand prize includes a Holland America Line Alaska cruise for two, a Sony Alpha 7R V camera, a 70-200mm F2.8 G Master II lens, and a 24-70mm F2.8 G Master II lens.
Kacy Cole, chief marketing officer at Holland America Line, noted the brand’s long legacy in Alaska, stating the partnership with Sony offers a fresh and interactive way for guests to document the region’s extraordinary beauty. She emphasized that the experience is designed to slow down and truly appreciate the wonders of Alaska.
Onboard learning is a key part of the collaboration. On June 25, 2025, during the 7-day Alaska Inside Passage cruise aboard Zaandam, guests took part in a pop-up photography class led by Sony Artisan Colby Brown, using Sony’s advanced imaging equipment. A condensed version of this tutorial will also be available across the fleet through stateroom TVs.
Sony’s Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions, shared that the initiative reflects the brand’s Kando philosophy—the idea that powerful photography can evoke deep emotional connections. The goal is to help guests create personal and artistic reflections of their cruise journey through state-of-the-art technology.
Alaska cruises with Holland America Line in 2025 will continue to showcase the region’s majestic landscapes through various itineraries. Each voyage features a designated “Glacier Day” and offers enhanced wildlife viewing opportunities with onboard naturalists and spotting guides. Itineraries include the 14-day “Great Alaska Explorer” roundtrip from Vancouver; the 7-day “Northbound” and “Southbound Glacier Discovery” cruises between Whittier (Anchorage) and Vancouver; the 7-day “Alaska Inside Passage” roundtrip sailings from Vancouver aboard Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, and Zaandam; and the 7-day “Alaska Explorer” roundtrip voyages from Seattle aboard Eurodam and Westerdam.
The partnership between Holland America Line and Sony elevates the traditional cruise experience, allowing guests to engage deeply with Alaska’s iconic scenery while learning and creating unforgettable visual memories.
