Holland America Float to Honor Alaska at Macy’s

Holland America Line will debut a new float in the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, celebrating nearly 80 years of sailing to Alaska. The Alaska-themed float will feature animated elements showcasing glaciers, wildlife, and landscapes, along with a nod to the cruise line’s Global Fresh Fish Program.
The 99th annual parade will take place in New York City on November 27, 2025, with the float traveling the 2.5-mile route to Macy’s Herald Square. Holland America Line president Beth Bodensteiner said the float offers a national stage to honor the cruise line’s long history in Alaska. “We love Alaska, and our float is a tribute to its grandeur—a way to honor its landscapes, spirit, and people while inspiring travelers to experience it with us,” she said.
Holland America began sailing to Alaska in 1947, a full twelve years before the territory became the 49th U.S. state. The company plans to mark its 80th anniversary in 2027, but celebrations are already underway with six ships scheduled to operate in Alaska between April and September 2026. Sailings will range from seven to 28 days, with itineraries that also offer overland extensions to Denali National Park and, in some cases, the Yukon.
Alaska officials praised the cruise line’s representation. “Holland America Line’s float captures the beauty of our state in a way that’s uniquely Alaskan,” said Julie Sande, commissioner of Alaska’s Department of Commerce. “It’s a joy to know that people nationwide will see what makes Alaska so special.”
