Holland America Line is bringing the beauty and adventure of Alaska to San Diego, California, with the Alaska Cruise and Travel Show on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. This free-to-attend, all-day event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a chance for locals to explore the wonders of an Alaska cruise vacation with Holland America Line, a leader in Alaska cruising.

This marks the first time the Alaska Travel Expo is being held in San Diego, following successful shows in Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Phoenix, Arizona. The event invites visitors to immerse themselves in Alaska’s unique culture through live presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, including gold panning and axe throwing. Attendees will also get to taste local Alaskan specialties and meet the experts who bring the region to life.

“San Diego is a key homeport for Holland America Line, with cruises departing to destinations like Hawaii, Mexico, and the South Pacific,” said Bill Fletcher, senior director of consumer programs for Holland America Line. “Although our Alaska cruises leave from nearby Seattle and Vancouver, we’re thrilled to connect with potential cruisers and those who have already booked their Alaska vacations. The expo will showcase the many ways Holland America delivers exceptional Alaska experiences, from unparalleled glacier viewing to wildlife-rich shore excursions.”

Attendees will be eligible to win exciting prizes, including one of six $500 Holland America Line gift cards. The grand prize is a Holland America Alaska cruise for two. Sweepstakes rules can be found at AlaskaTravelShow.com. Additionally, visitors who book a Holland America Alaska cruise or Cruisetour during the show will receive exclusive perks like reduced deposits and onboard credits.

At the event, shore excursion team members will be available to discuss a wide range of Alaska tour options. Guests who have already booked an Alaska cruise and have access to their accounts online can also book their shore excursions on-site. Visitors can further enhance their cruise by adding onboard amenities, such as beverage packages and specialty dining, directly at the event.

The Alaska Cruise and Travel Show will feature a variety of engaging activities, including:

  • Axe-throwing demonstrations by Will “Buck Randy” Randall, star of the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan, Alaska.
  • A chance to pan for real gold, reminiscent of the Klondike Gold Rush, at the Gold Dredge 8 booth.
  • Cooking demonstrations by Holland America Line chefs showcasing authentic Alaskan dishes served on board.
  • Wildlife viewing tips from a Holland America Line expert, highlighting the top reasons why travelers choose Alaska.
  • Live music performances at Denali Square, Holland America’s exclusive venue in Denali.
  • A game of Pickle Pong in anticipation of enjoying pickleball on board during an Alaska cruise.

The expo will also feature local exhibitors from Alaska, including representatives from the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad, K2 Aviation, Denali Park Adventures, Gastineau Guiding, Alaska Railroad, and Explore Fairbanks.

In 2025, six Holland America Line ships will sail to Alaska, offering roundtrip cruises from Seattle and Vancouver or one-way voyages between Whittier, Alaska, and Vancouver. Every Alaska cruise includes visits to one or more of Alaska’s famous glaciers, and the Glacier Bay experience features commentary from National Park Rangers.
