Holland America Launches Updated Standby Program with Big Savings

Holland America Line is attracting last-minute travelers with its revamped standby program, which offers significant discounts on cruise fares for those willing to wait until the last minute to book. Officially launched in April, the updated program aims to make spontaneous travel more affordable.

Under the new pricing, travelers can secure inside or oceanview cabins at $99 per person, per day, or verandah cabins at $129 per person, per day. This new rate, which includes all taxes and fees, replaces the previous standby cost of $49 per person, per day. For many itineraries, the standby rate is at least half the price of booking in advance, making it a valuable option for budget-conscious vacationers.

To participate in the standby program, travelers must join the standby list and will be charged immediately. If they are not selected, they will receive a refund within four to six weeks. However, if they are chosen but decide not to sail, the fare will not be refunded. Once added to the standby list, travelers cannot remove themselves.

Travelers on the standby list will be notified two to seven days before departure if a spot becomes available. The rate is charged per person, so a couple would need to pay double. However, for larger groups, the third and fourth guests in a cabin can sail for free.

The standby program covers a wide range of itineraries, including Alaska cruises, holiday voyages in the Mexican Riviera, and Hawaii circumnavigations. Departures are available from various ports including Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Whittier, Boston, and Montreal, offering travelers multiple options to explore.

This updated standby program allows adventurous and flexible travelers to take advantage of discounted fares while still enjoying Holland America’s renowned cruise experiences.
