Holland America Line Announces Solar Eclipse Cruises for 2026

Holland America Line is offering an exciting chance for astronomy enthusiasts to witness the 2026 total solar eclipse with specially curated cruises. Although the eclipse will not be visible from the U.S., the cruise line has crafted three unique itineraries that will sail directly into the path of totality, with one departure starting from the U.S.

Beth Bodensteiner, Holland America’s chief commercial officer, highlighted the company’s commitment to delivering spectacular experiences, noting, “After the excitement and success around our 2024 eclipse cruises, we knew our guests were looking for additional opportunities to get a front-row seat for some of the world’s most special natural spectacles.” She added that the new cruises not only offer optimal viewing of the eclipse but also provide extensive exploration of exciting destinations alongside Holland America’s renowned premium onboard experience.

Among the offerings is the “Voyage of the Vikings: Solar Eclipse,” a 35-day round-trip voyage aboard the Zuiderdam. Departing from Boston on July 18, 2026, this epic journey will traverse from New England to Canada, cross the Atlantic to Europe, and make stops in Greenland, Iceland, The Netherlands, and Ireland. The Zuiderdam will be strategically positioned off Iceland’s western coast during the eclipse for the best views before returning to the U.S.

The second itinerary, the 28-day “Scandinavian Solar Eclipse with Greenland and Scotland,” will set sail on July 25, 2026, aboard the Nieuw Statendam. This cruise offers departures from either Dover, England, or Rotterdam, Netherlands, and will explore Norway, Iceland, and other northern ports. Guests will experience the eclipse off Iceland’s northwest coast and enjoy an overnight stay in South Queensferry near Edinburgh.
