Host Hotels ranks high in REIT sustainability

Kilroy Realty, Host Hotels & Resorts and Boston Properties claimed the first three spots in a Barron’s ranking of the most sustainable REITs. Buildings with environmental certifications may enjoy a rent premium and attract higher demand, according to Brendan McCarthy of Calvert Research and Management, which aided the creation of the list. Other REITs included on the list include Ventas, Alexandria Real Estate Equities, AvalonBay Communities, Kimco Realty, Equity Residential, Equinix and Brixmor Property Group.
