Hotel rooms under construction plunged to 199,700 in the fourth quarter from 655,026 in Q3, according to Lodging Econometrics. Meanwhile, 5,216 projects totaling 650,222 rooms were in the pipeline, 24% of which were of the extended-stay variety, which has performed better than other categories.
