Hotel Experts Discuss Data, AI, and Speed to Market Strategies

Hotel revenue management is evolving rapidly, with advancements in technology enabling faster, more dynamic responses to market trends. Industry leaders recently discussed the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in driving these changes during The Phocuswright Conference.

Garine Ferejian-Mayo, chief commercial officer at Sonesta International, emphasized the importance of speed. “We talk about our commercial engine every day. Speed to market is crucial, and AI offers immense untapped potential,” said Ferejian-Mayo. Sonesta operates 1,100 hotels across 13 brands and is actively exploring AI’s ability to optimize revenue strategies in real time.

Sebastien Leitner, VP of partnerships at Cloudbeds, highlighted the need to break down operational silos. “Our AI-powered product helps hotels integrate revenue management, digital marketing, and guest experience into one streamlined system. This real-time intelligence enables better, faster decisions,” he explained.

The panelists underscored the importance of data-driven decision-making. By monitoring social media and other travel-related signals, hotels can anticipate demand surges, such as those triggered by conventions or concerts, and adjust pricing accordingly.

However, both experts cautioned against blindly adopting new technologies. Hotels must embrace a “test and learn” mindset to implement tools that genuinely improve efficiency and guest satisfaction.

As AI continues to reshape hotel operations, industry players recognize that speed, data, and personalized experiences will be key to staying competitive in the evolving hospitality landscape.
