Hotels sweeten deals with free gas as inflation sours travel

Many hotels are offering free gas cards as perks this summer to counter higher fuel prices — and room rates — that polls show are crimping travel. While the average pump price of $4.60 per gallon has dropped 41 cents in a month, plans to cut trips and choose destinations closer to home were reported by nearly half those responding to a recent survey.
