Hunnu Air has marked a milestone in its international expansion by inaugurating its first scheduled flight into mainland China with the newly acquired Embraer E195-E2. On May 11, 2025, the Mongolian carrier, Embraer and Beijing Daxing International Airport hosted a ceremony to celebrate the arrival of the E2 jet on the Ulaanbaatar–Beijing Daxing (PKX) route. Flight-tracking data shows that the first of Hunnu Air’s two new E195-E2s, registered EI-HUN, actually began service on May 5, but the formal event acknowledged the aircraft’s entry into commercial operation on Chinese soil for the first time.

Munkhjargal Purevjal, CEO of Hunnu Air, said the new E195-E2 opening reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding its international network and the growing collaboration between Mongolia and China. Since launching its first-generation E190 fleet in 2019, Hunnu Air has looked forward to the E2 family for greater range, capacity and fuel efficiency. “We expect that the E2 will become a backbone of our long-term growth, enabling us to deliver unparalleled connectivity across the region,” Purevjal said.

Embraer Commercial Aviation’s Chief Commercial Officer, Martyn Holmes, underlined the significance of the E195-E2’s launch into mainland China. “The deployment of the E195-E2 on this key route underscores the depth of our partnership with Hunnu Air and our shared responsibility to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations,” he said. Holmes added that the rightsized E2 would allow the airline to grow profitably, tapping into Mongolia’s emerging market while strengthening a wider Asia network.

The E195-E2 brings multiple advantages over its predecessor, including a 10 percent reduction in fuel burn, lower maintenance costs and an extended range that exceeds 2,600 nautical miles. Its noise footprint is also significantly smaller, helping carriers meet strict airport regulations. Hunnu Air plans to use the two E2s not only on the PKX link but also to boost capacity on routes to leisure destinations such as Haikou, Sanya and Vietnam’s Phu Quoc, and to open new services to Japan, India, South Korea and Uzbekistan’s Tashkent.

Beijing Daxing Airport, which co-hosted the ceremony, has rapidly become a major gateway for East Asian travel. The airport’s leadership welcomed Hunnu Air’s E2 operations as a step toward broader connectivity between China and its northern neighbor. Airport executives praised the jet’s modern cabin, custom-designed for efficiency and passenger comfort, and forecast strong demand on the Ulaanbaatar route for both business and leisure travelers.

This achievement follows Embraer’s announcement on April 16, 2024, that the E190-E2 and E195-E2 had received type certification from the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority. That approval cleared the way for Hunnu Air to take delivery of both models and integrate them into its fleet. The Mongolia carrier, founded in 2011, has steadily pursued growth by adding jets optimized for point-to-point routes, giving it an edge over competitors using larger narrow-bodies on thin markets.

With the E195-E2 now in active scheduled service to one of Asia’s busiest airports, Hunnu Air solidifies its reputation as an innovative regional operator. The airline’s focus on fuel-efficient aircraft aligns with broader sustainability goals across the aviation industry, as carriers seek to reduce carbon emissions and operating expenses. Embraer’s E2 program, with more than 300 orders and commitments worldwide, continues to gain traction among airlines looking for modern, midsize jets that fit evolving route networks.

As the E195-E2 forges a new link between Ulaanbaatar and Beijing, Hunnu Air looks ahead to further international launches that will deepen Mongolia’s air connections and showcase the E2’s performance advantages. Passengers can expect a spacious cabin layout, larger overhead bins, advanced noise suppression and touch-screen inflight entertainment—amenities that represent a significant upgrade for regional travel in Central and East Asia.
