Hurtigruten Introduces New Sámi-Inspired Menu Fleetwide

Hurtigruten has launched a new onboard menu created by Sámi culinary ambassador Máret Rávdná Buljo, bringing traditional Sámi flavors and ingredients to guests sailing along the Norwegian coastline. The dishes are now featured as part of Hurtigruten’s Norway’s Coastal Kitchen program, which highlights fresh, sustainable produce sourced from more than 70 local suppliers across Norway.
Guests can now experience authentic Sámi cuisine rooted in the food culture of the Indigenous Sámi people of Arctic Europe. The menu showcases staple ingredients such as reindeer, seafood and locally sourced Arctic produce, each dish designed to share stories of Sámi heritage, landscape and tradition.
“This is a big step for Sámi cuisine, as it has not always been traditionally acknowledged in Norway,” said Rávdná Buljo, a 2025 Matprisen award nominee. “Hurtigruten is opening the door for Sámi food to become more widespread. When creating the dishes, it was important to highlight the many aspects of Sámi culture—from reindeer to seafood—and to tell our history and traditions through each plate.”
