June brought major developments in the hotel and resort industry, highlighted by Hyatt’s acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts, several high-profile resort openings, and global brand expansions.

Hyatt led the month with four new resort openings. In Bulgaria, the AluaSoul Sunny Beach debuted as an adults-only, all-inclusive retreat with nearly 400 rooms, Blue Flag beaches, and six dining venues. In Greece, the Zélia Halkidiki joined the Destination by Hyatt brand, offering farm-to-table dining, wellness amenities, and 100+ rooms and suites.

In the Caribbean, Hyatt opened the Secrets St. Lucia, featuring 355 rooms, five restaurants, and activities such as kayaking. The new Secrets Baby Beach Aruba followed, adding 304 suites, multiple restaurants, a spa, and wellness programs to Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection.

Fiesta Americana also expanded with two new openings: Fiesta Americana Nuevo Vallarta in Mexico and Fiesta Americana Funeeq Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

On the corporate side, Hyatt finalized its acquisition of Playa Hotels & Resorts, adding 15 properties across the Caribbean and Mexico to its Inclusive Collection.

Hotel brand expansions continued globally. Hilton reached a milestone with its 1,000th luxury and lifestyle hotel and is targeting further growth in Africa. Marriott also announced plans to add over 50 properties in Africa by 2027.

Club Med marked its 75th anniversary with news of significant growth, including BREEAM-certified resorts in Asia, a Gulf States beach resort by 2028, an Exclusive Collection property in Africa by 2026, and major renovations in Thailand and Indonesia.
