Hyatt Centric Debuts in North Carolina With Hyatt Centric SouthPark Charlotte
Hyatt Centric SouthPark Charlotte celebrated its grand opening June 10th in SouthPark, Charlotte’s premier retail and business district. Designed with an inviting, modern ambience and a distinctly local flavor, the 175-room property provides a social hub for travelers seeking a home base in the heart of the action. Situated just steps from SouthPark’s premier shopping, dining and entertainment, a short trip from Uptown Charlotte’s museums and attractions, and in close proximity to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), this lifestyle hotel is perfect for savvy travelers with an adventurous spirit looking to immerse themselves in the local culture.
The hotel’s modern architecture and interiors, designed by Atlanta-based Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio, are intended to reflect the rich history and beautiful landscapes of the Charlotte region. The all-natural design features an earthy color palette of green, blue, and gold, interwoven with natural elements such as stone, wood, metal and water. In the lobby, guests will be greeted by a show-stopping curved centerpiece staircase and living mural of moss behind the front desk. Signature eclectic art features adorn the lobby, including a colorful, metallic six-foot-tall peacock statue, and a mural by local artist, Hillary Siber Edwards that features 100 porcelain gold ceramic mining pans intended to represent the 100 counties in North Carolina and the region’s history as the first documented gold discovery in the United States. A third mural provides an ode to Charlotte’s storied revolutionary war history and depicts a lone rider among a herd of horses, celebrating the brave ride of Captain James Jack, a local militia member who rode from Charlotte to Philadelphia in June of 1775 to deliver Mecklenburg County’s Declaration of Independence to the representatives from North Carolina.
“We are thrilled to welcome guests and locals alike to Hyatt Centric SouthPark Charlotte,” said Nish Patel, president of Beacon Investment Management Group, the hotel’s developer and management company. “The hotel will introduce visitors to a modern, inviting space with unique artwork and architectural features representative of Charlotte’s growth as one of the true jewel cities of the southeastern United States. We worked to create a one-of-a-kind destination in the city, offering a truly fun, sophisticated and shareworthy experience for all that provides the perfect launch pad for guests to discover the magic of Charlotte.”
FOOD & BEVERAGE: IRO & MIZU
The restaurants at Hyatt Centric SouthPark Charlotte are designed to be gathering spaces fit for guests and locals with a variety of tastes. The hotel’s lobby restaurant IRO, which means ‘color’ in Japanese, is an intimate, naturally lit space serving colorful signature cocktails to represent the color theme, globally inspired wines and local craft beers, and locally sourced, seasonal small plates. The hotel’s rooftop eatery, Mizu, is inspired by the wood-fired Robata grills of Japan and offers a refreshed take on live-fire cooking. Slated to open in August of 2021, the rooftop restaurant by Indigo Road Hospitality Group (IRHG) combines the traditions of ancient Japanese cooking with Southern influences and Asian flavors. The kitchen, helmed by Executive Chef and IRHG veteran, Michael Chanthavong and anchored by Mizu’s own Robata grill, features a seafood-focused menu composed of wood-fired, raw, and chilled offerings. The beverage program offers bright, easy-drinking libations using Japanese spirits and seasonal ingredients, complementing the cuisine and atmosphere. With a chic, minimalist design with natural elements throughout, Mizu offers sweeping rooftop views from the patio, as well as sophisticated interiors and comfortable lounge and bar seating. Mizu will open for dinner and bar service, with a forthcoming Sunday brunch at a later date.

The 175 guestrooms including 11 suites are artistic and thoughtfully designed to ensure every single detail is intentional. All rooms also feature an abstract depiction of a crown – a nod to Queen Charlotte.
MEETING & EVENT SPACE
The hotel’s banquet and meeting rooms, aptly named for key local historical figures, total more than 4,000 square feet and feature neutral décor, locally inspired art, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The banquet spaces also feature dimmable ceiling lights that can be changed to any color, allowing for mood lighting to cater to any type of event. The 10-seat boardroom, named The Queen’s Museum, is enclosed in glass and features a mixed-media portrait by local artist Kathleen Dennis of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III during the American Revolution, for whom both Charlotte and Mecklenburg County are named.
