Hybrid Air Vehicles Launches HAV USA to Expand Airlander Reach

Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) announced the formation of a new US-based subsidiary, HAV USA, on July 10, 2025, marking a significant step in the company’s global expansion strategy for its innovative Airlander 10 air vehicle. The move is aimed at meeting growing international interest, particularly from US government entities, aerospace contractors, and commercial logistics and passenger transport sectors.
According to HAV, the establishment of HAV USA brings the company closer to key partners and customers in the region and enhances opportunities to deploy Airlander in national security, disaster response, and commercial missions. “This is a key step as we expand Airlander opportunities globally,” HAV stated.
Airlander 10, the company’s first commercial aircraft, is a hybrid air vehicle capable of carrying over 100 passengers, 10 tons of cargo, or functioning as a platform for surveillance and communications. Designed with a modular payload configuration and able to stay airborne for up to five days, the aircraft offers unique flexibility. Its ability to take off and land on virtually any flat surface without needing a conventional runway gives it a major advantage for operations in remote or disaster-affected regions.
HAV is currently finalizing production plans for the Airlander 10, with larger variants also in development. These future models could carry up to 200 tons of cargo, expanding the aircraft’s potential for global freight transport and humanitarian missions.
The creation of HAV USA is also expected to facilitate collaboration with US defense and aerospace partners. The new subsidiary will be led by John Schumacher, a seasoned leader in aerospace and government. Schumacher has served in roles including US naval officer, a key contributor to NASA’s Vision for Space Exploration, and president of the International Academy of Astronautics. He also played a pivotal role in revitalizing Aerojet Rocketdyne, one of America’s leading rocket propulsion firms.
“Establishing a presence in the United States marks a new chapter in our international journey,” said Tom Grundy, CEO of HAV. “We are excited to bring our vision to new audiences and forge deeper partnerships across borders. I am pleased to have John Schumacher on board to lead this new expansion.”
Schumacher added, “It’s a great honor to lead HAV USA. Airlander brings to the United States an aircraft whose roots and future are British and American – it embodies an unsurpassed combination of trans-Atlantic aerospace innovation. Airlander will provide capabilities vital to US national security and commerce.”
With HAV USA now operational, Hybrid Air Vehicles expects to strengthen cooperation with American firms and government bodies while promoting the unique benefits of Airlander’s hybrid airship technology in both commercial and defense applications.
