Iberia Resumes Spain’s Only Nonstop Service to Japan
Iberia has resumed its nonstop service between Madrid-Barajas (MAD) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT), restoring the only direct connection between Spain and Japan. The service, which relaunched on October 27, 2024, marks Iberia’s return to Tokyo after a four-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This route, now the longest in Iberia’s network, operates three times weekly using Airbus A350-900 aircraft configured with three classes: 31 business, 28 premium economy, and 293 economy seats. Estimated flight times are 14 hours for the eastbound journey and 16 hours on the return to Europe, with the aircraft circumnavigating the globe in each rotation to avoid Russian airspace.
As Iberia’s only East Asian destination, Tokyo diversifies the airline’s route map, which traditionally focuses on transatlantic flights to Latin America. Iberia has tailored the onboard experience for Japanese travelers, ensuring a minimum of three Japanese-speaking crew members per flight, Japanese language options on inflight menus, and a selection of Japanese content on the inflight entertainment system. The onboard catering has also been adapted to suit Japanese tastes, enhancing the comfort and familiarity of the experience for passengers from Japan.
