Spain’s national carrier Iberia, a proud member of the International Airline Group (IAG), has announced an ambitious expansion plan for the northern summer 2025 IATA scheduling season, set to launch on March 30, 2025. The carrier is gearing up to boost its global operations, with a particular focus on increasing connectivity to the Americas, reinforcing its leadership in the transatlantic and Latin American markets.

A key highlight of the expansion is Iberia’s plan to ramp up services between Europe and South America. As the market leader with the widest range of destinations in the region, Iberia will offer a record 3.2 million seats between the two continents—a 4% increase over 2024. This growth translates to more than 300 flights per week, serving 18 destinations across 16 countries. In particular, the cities of Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo are set to benefit from the most significant enhancements. Buenos Aires will see an addition of three weekly flights, bringing its total to 21 frequencies per week, while Sao Paulo will similarly add three flights to reach 14 weekly frequencies. Lima, Peru, will also experience a boost with services increasing to double daily from May 2025.

Iberia’s commitment to Latin America is evident across its network. The airline will maintain triple-daily services on key routes to Mexico City and Bogota, while Montevideo and Quito will continue to be served with daily flights. Additionally, Santiago de Chile is slated to receive 11 weekly frequencies from June 2025 onward. Other important routes, such as those to Rio de Janeiro, Caracas, and Guayaquil, will also see consistent service levels, ensuring strong connectivity throughout the region.

On the transatlantic front, Iberia is set to reinforce its commitment to the United States with the introduction of new Airbus A321XLR aircraft. In the summer season of 2025, the carrier will operate 140 weekly flights between Spain and the United States, offering a total of 1.1 million seats—a 14% increase over 2024. The enhanced network includes non-stop services to major cities such as New York (twice daily), Chicago (daily), Miami (twice daily), Dallas-Fort Worth (daily), Los Angeles (daily), San Francisco (three times a week), Boston (twice daily), and Washington, DC (daily). Notably, Boston’s frequency will double from one to two daily flights from June 2025, while Washington, DC, will expand from four to seven weekly frequencies, all operated by the new A321XLR.

Beyond the Americas, Iberia is set to maintain and enhance its global reach. Flights to Tokyo, Japan, will offer approximately 63,000 seats from April to October 2025, while services to Qatar will remain robust with a daily non-stop flight from Madrid to Doha, supplemented by two codeshare flights with Qatar Airways—facilitating onward connections to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania.

In Europe, the airline is focusing on core markets such as France and Italy. Paris will receive four additional weekly frequencies, bringing the total to up to 11 direct flights a day, while Rome will add five extra weekly frequencies, offering between six and seven daily flights to coincide with Rome’s Jubilee Year in 2025. Seasonal routes are also making a comeback; flights to the Azores (Ponta Delgada), Funchal, Faro, Tirana, Ljubljana, and several Greek islands are set to resume or expand, complementing Iberia’s dense network to Lisbon and Porto.

With this comprehensive expansion, Iberia aims to capture growing demand and set new benchmarks in international connectivity, reinforcing its status as a market leader in global aviation for summer 2025.
