Icelandair has unveiled plans to launch direct flights from Reykjavik, Iceland, to Istanbul, Turkey, starting September 2025. The new route will connect Iceland with Istanbul Airport (IST), with four weekly flights beginning on September 5, 2025. The flight will have a duration of approximately five and a half hours, offering travelers a direct link between the two destinations.

“I look forward to adding the great destination of Istanbul to our extensive route network and further expanding our partnership with Turkish Airlines,” said Bogi Nils Bogason, President and CEO of Icelandair. The new route is designed to strengthen Icelandair’s position in the growing market for travel between Asia and Iceland, with the airline noting increased demand in recent years. The connection to Istanbul will enhance Icelandair’s sales and distribution network, expanding its reach across the region.

As part of the expansion, Icelandair will also enhance its codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines, a collaboration first announced in the summer of 2023. This partnership aims to streamline connections between Iceland and destinations across Asia and the Middle East. Icelandair’s flight schedule to Istanbul will be aligned with Turkish Airlines’ flights, ensuring seamless connections for travelers.

This new route to Istanbul will reduce total travel time between Iceland and the East, making it easier for passengers traveling from Asia to reach Iceland via Istanbul. Icelandair’s strategic adjustments aim to better serve the needs of passengers traveling between the East and Iceland, optimizing the efficiency of connections to and from the Icelandic capital.

Icelandair operates in four key markets: to Iceland, from Iceland, via Iceland, and within Iceland. The airline offers services across Europe, North America, the North Atlantic, and the West Nordic region, and is continuously expanding its network to meet the demands of travelers seeking convenient and efficient connections.

With this new direct route, Icelandair is poised to strengthen its presence in the international travel market, offering more options for those wishing to explore both Iceland and Turkey.
