IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its presence in Hawaii with the introduction of the Coco Palms Resort by Kimpton on the island of Kauai. Slated to open in 2026, this marks the first venture of IHG’s luxury and lifestyle brand, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, into Hawaii. The resort, once a hotspot for celebrities like Elvis Presley and Rita Hayworth, is undergoing a comprehensive redesign by owner Reef Capital Partners.

Location and Design Nestled in Wailua along Kauai’s picturesque shoreline, Coco Palms Resort will honor its rich history while integrating modern luxury. The redesign is being thoughtfully guided by Native Hawaiian advisors to preserve its cultural authenticity. The revamped resort will boast 350 rooms and cottages, set against a backdrop of a 15-acre coconut grove.

Features and Amenities Guests will enjoy a range of upscale amenities including an onsite spa, three swimming pools, multiple dining options, and unique bar concepts. The resort will retain its traditional torch-lighting ceremony and introduce Kimpton’s signature services like morning coffee and tea, the evening Kimpton Social Hour, in-room yoga mats, and a pet-friendly policy.

Cultural Integration A standout feature will be the onsite cultural center and museum dedicated to Kauai’s heritage, designed to educate both residents and visitors. This initiative underscores Kimpton’s commitment to cultural respect and community integration.

Strategic Expansion The Coco Palms Resort will serve as Kimpton’s flagship on the west coast, revitalizing a site that has been neglected since Hurricane ‘Iniki in 1992. Leanne Harwood, SVP, Managing Director for Luxury & Lifestyle Americas at IHG, expressed enthusiasm about the project, noting, “Hawai’i beckons travelers seeking both relaxation and discovery, and this wholly reimagined resort will welcome not only visitors but also the local community with unique, culturally respectful experiences all within an inspiring boutique luxury setting.”

Future Developments This announcement follows IHG’s recent revelation of three upcoming resorts in Turks & Caicos, set to open in 2027, including an InterContinental resort, another Kimpton, and a Hotel Indigo property, highlighting IHG’s aggressive expansion in luxury and lifestyle destinations.

With its scenic location, rich history, and luxurious offerings, Coco Palms Resort by Kimpton is poised to become a premier destination in Hawaii, blending exclusive resort living with authentic cultural experiences.
