IHG to Add AirPlay Option to Hotel Rooms
IHG Hotels & Resorts announced it would soon launch AirPlay in hotel rooms in collaboration with Apple, allowing travelers to securely share content from their iPhone or iPad to their guest room TV.
AirPlay will begin to roll out in select IHG hotels globally before the end of 2023.
Once AirPlay is available in hotels, guests will scan a QR code unique to the television in their room to easily enjoy a personalized entertainment experience. Travelers can stream, control and share videos, photos, music and more from their iPhone or iPad to the big screen.
“Working together with Apple to introduce AirPlay to our IHG Studio platform later this year marks another significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to enhance the guest experience,” IHG’s George Turner said. “This technology will provide seamless connectivity and personalized entertainment options.”
“Whether traveling for business or leisure, our guests can now enjoy the convenience of streaming directly from their iPhone or iPad to our in-room technology, creating a home-away-from-home environment like never before,” Turner continued.
IHG Studio, launched in 2019, transformed the in-room guest experience by offering a range of entertainment, communication and streaming functionalities. By incorporating AirPlay, the company continues seamlessly integrating technology into the customer experience.
With 85 percent of U.S. households having at least one video streaming subscription, IHG recognizes the growing demand for enhanced entertainment options. With AirPlay, guests can pick up watching their favorite shows and movies right where they left off and not worry about remembering to log out of their account when they leave.
