India has been re-elected to Part II of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council for the 2025–2028 term, reaffirming its commitment to advancing global aviation safety, security, and sustainability. The election took place on September 27, 2025, during the 42nd ICAO Assembly Session in Montreal.

Part II of the ICAO Council represents nations that make significant contributions to international civil air navigation. India’s re-election highlights its growing influence in the global aviation sector and its role in shaping policies that impact air transport worldwide.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed the re-election, noting that the Ministry of External Affairs had played a crucial role by engaging with member states to garner support for India’s candidacy. Ahead of the session, Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu hosted a reception for Ambassadors and High Commissioners in New Delhi, where he sought backing for India’s continued seat on the council.

India has pledged to use its term to strengthen international aviation safety, promote equitable growth in air connectivity, and champion technology and innovation. The country has also reaffirmed its support for ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” initiative, which ensures all member states can benefit from global aviation standards.

During his visit to Montreal, Naidu held bilateral meetings with fellow member states and engaged with global aviation stakeholders. As one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, India’s leadership within ICAO is seen as vital to shaping the future of global air transport.
