Boeing 737-8 on its first flight

Akasa Air has placed an order with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O’Hare) for seventy-two B737 MAX jets during the ongoing 2021 Dubai Air Show. While the purchase includes both the B737-8 and the higher density B737-8-200, the exact split was not revealed.

Backed by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Akasa Air aims to operate as an ultra-low-cost carrier with a tentative launch date of Summer 2022 currently on the cards.

The start-up is set to embark on its certification drive after having been granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) by the Ministry of Civil Aviation last month.
