India’s Alliance Air secures two ATR42s for Himalaya ops

Alliance Air (India) (9I, Mumbai Int’l) has secured two ATR42-600s on dry-lease from TrueNoord following a tender floated in November last year.

Deliveries of the two Avions de Transport Régional turboprops will start towards the middle of the year after which they will be deployed on flights to the remote hot-and-high airports of Shimla and Kulu located in the Himalayas.

Following the recent privatisation of former parent Air India (AI, Mumbai Int’l), Alliance Air is now a standalone government-run airline that specialises in serving Tier II & III cities across India. Its fleet currently consists of eighteen ATR72-600s although, according to the ch-aviation fleets history module, it did operate up to seven ATR42-300s between 2002 and 2020.
