IndiGo adds another ramp to get passengers off a plane more quickly
Sick of having to wait ages to exit a plane after landing? Indian airline Indigo thinks it has the solution.
The low-cost carrier said it is introducing a new “Three Point Disembarkation process”, meaning customers will be able to exit its aircraft using two forward ramps and one rear exit ramp.
Chief executive Ronojoy Dutta said IndiGo would be the first airline in the world to use this process.
“At IndiGo, we constantly and dynamically keep reinventing our internal standards to enable a hassle-free customer experience as well as contributing to operational efficiencies for all stakeholders including airport operators and ground handling companies,” Dutta said in a press release on August 4, 2022.
IndiGo said it had conducted trials and received positive feedback from customers.
“Adding a third ramp for disembarkation is a simple yet effective way to complete a smooth travel experience for our customers,” commented executive vice-president Sanjeev Ramdas.
The low-cost carrier said the new disembarkation process will first be introduced on its Airbus A320 and A321 fleets for flights arriving at remote stands at Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru airports, before being gradually deployed across the rest of the network.
