IndiGo Joins Global Airline Alliance with Delta and AF-KLM

IndiGo, Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form a new global airline partnership, enhancing air connectivity between India, North America, Europe, and the UK. This strategic collaboration aims to offer seamless travel experiences by leveraging the strengths of each carrier. IndiGo will contribute its vast domestic network across India, Delta and Virgin Atlantic will provide robust transatlantic services, and Air France-KLM will strengthen links across Europe and North America. Together, the group intends to create an integrated, high-quality global network.
The announcement, made on June 1, 2025, comes as IndiGo prepares to launch its first long-haul international services this summer. The airline will begin operations with six damp-leased Boeing 787 aircraft and plans to scale up with a confirmed order for 30 Airbus A350-900s. This expansion supports IndiGo’s ambition to transform into a global carrier by 2030.
Delta Air Lines also revealed its intention to resume direct service to India, with a nonstop route between Atlanta and Delhi expected to begin, pending regulatory clearance. KLM, another key partner in the alliance, plans to launch new flights from Amsterdam to Hyderabad in September 2025, further boosting connectivity between India and Europe.
A major feature of the alliance is a future codeshare agreement that will enable IndiGo passengers to access partner airline flights using IndiGo’s 6E code. This will simplify bookings and improve travel convenience across a wide network of destinations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and India.
Beyond flight operations, the MoU outlines additional areas of cooperation. The alliance plans to integrate loyalty programs, coordinate sales and cargo services, and explore joint technology platforms. There is also a focus on maintenance collaboration, sustainability efforts, and shared training programs, aimed at boosting operational efficiency and long-term resilience.
The partnership marks a significant milestone for IndiGo as it expands its international reach. It also strengthens the global presence of Delta, Air France-KLM, and Virgin Atlantic by offering enhanced access to the fast-growing Indian aviation market. Once regulatory approvals are secured and commercial terms are finalized, travelers across four continents can expect a more cohesive and connected travel experience.
This alliance reflects a growing trend in global aviation, where strategic partnerships are enabling airlines to extend their market reach without relying solely on organic growth or acquisitions. By combining resources and networks, the four carriers are positioning themselves to meet rising international demand and improve service quality while maintaining operational independence.
