IndiGo Makes Historic Record Order of 500 Airbus A320neo Family Jets
IndiGo, the largest airline in India in terms of market share, has made a historic order for 500 Airbus A320neo family aircraft at the Paris Air Show on June 19. This deal represents the largest single purchase agreement ever seen in commercial aviation and marks IndiGo’s first order with Airbus, according to Reuters.
The order comprises 300 A320neos, 100 A321neos, and 100 A321XLRs, which is the longest-range variant in the A320neo family. These aircraft will enable IndiGo to expand its domestic and international network while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Currently, IndiGo operates a fleet of 264 aircraft, primarily consisting of Boeing 737s, and holds a market share of approximately 50% in India. The airline has been experiencing rapid growth in the country’s aviation market, which is considered the fastest-growing in the world, with air travel demand projected to triple by 2030.
Guillaume Faury, CEO of Airbus, expressed his satisfaction with the order, describing it as a strong endorsement of the A320neo family’s exceptional operating economics and performance. He further stated that Airbus is proud to support IndiGo’s growth aspirations with its innovative and efficient aircraft products.
