IndiGo to Launch Daily London Heathrow Flights in October

IndiGo will launch daily nonstop flights to London Heathrow on October 26, marking its third long-haul route to Western Europe. The service, pending regulatory approval, is expected to operate from New Delhi using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
This expansion follows IndiGo’s July debut in the Western Europe market with flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam. The airline is leasing six 787-9s from Norse Atlantic Airways to support its long-haul growth, with one already in service and the remainder arriving by March 2026. These aircraft will serve until IndiGo begins receiving 30 Airbus A350-900s from 2027.
The launch coincides with IndiGo’s 19th anniversary and positions the carrier against Air India, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic, which dominate the UK-India market. OAG data shows the three airlines currently operate 73,700 weekly seats between London and India, up from 42,900 in 2019. Air India holds 37.4% of capacity, British Airways 35.5%, and Virgin Atlantic 27.1%.
The Delhi–London route is the largest UK-India city pair, with 763,000 passengers in 2024, followed by Mumbai–London at 631,500. IndiGo’s 787-9s will feature 56 premium IndiGoStretch seats and 282 in economy, a product also being rolled out on select Airbus A321 international routes to Dubai and Singapore.
IndiGo aims to become a global player by 2030, supported by partnerships with Air France-KLM, Delta Air Lines, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Japan Airlines, and Jetstar. Upcoming routes include Copenhagen, Athens, Siem Reap, and expanded Central Asia services in FY2026.
