Indonesia Launches AI Biometric Corridors to Speed Airport Border Control

Indonesia has introduced new AI-powered biometric corridors in partnership with Amadeus, marking a major step toward seamless airport border processing. The technology verifies passengers’ identities as they walk through the corridors, eliminating the need to present travel documents.

The initiative is part of the government’s “All Indonesia” digital transformation program designed to streamline entry procedures for international travelers. Indonesia’s immigration authority has deployed two biometric corridors at Jakarta Airport and a third at Surabaya, with initial access prioritized for elderly and disabled passengers. The system will gradually expand to all travelers across major airports.

Enrollment is completed through the “All Indonesia” app, which integrates immigration, customs, health and quarantine declarations. Travelers can share passport details in advance, allowing authorities to conduct background checks before passengers arrive at the airport.

The biometric corridors were successfully tested during Hajj operations, when 220,000 travelers flew between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. At peak times, each corridor processed more than 30 border crossings per minute—ten times the capacity of traditional biometric eGates.

Amadeus collaborated with Sinergi Teknoglobal Perkasa to deliver the system. Company leaders noted that the new “Seamless Corridor” represents a major milestone in removing queues and document checks at borders, strengthening Indonesia’s long-term vision for smart and secure travel.

Indonesia’s deployment follows earlier biometric innovations such as Frankfurt Airport’s AI-powered security scanners and Dubai International Airport’s 2018 biometric path. However, Indonesia’s solution goes a step further by eliminating the need for eGates, offering a more fluid and fully automated border experience.
