In preparation for its debut in 2024, Global Airlines, based in Iraq, has taken significant steps by securing leases for two A321-200 aircraft from AFG Aviation Ireland, a subsidiary of AFG Air Finance. This strategic move positions the airline to initiate its planned Hajj and Umrah charter services later this year, targeting a niche market with high demand.

The aircraft mark a pivotal development for the fledgling airline, one is a 9.2-year-old A321 aircraft formerly operated by Avianca Airlines, has already been registered in Iraq as of February 2, 2024. Meanwhile, the other A321 has a history of service under Nordwind Airlines and aged at 15.9 years, is currently registered in Bermuda. Both aircraft are stationed at Cairo International Airport, undergoing maintenance in anticipation of their operational debut with Global Airlines.

While Global Airlines has kept specifics of its operational plans under wraps, the focus on religious tourism, particularly catering to the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, indicates a targeted approach to carving out a niche in the competitive aviation market. The decision to lease these two A321s underscores the airline’s commitment to launching with reliable and capable aircraft, ensuring a strong start for its specialized charter services.

Incorporated in 2021, Global Airlines is poised to become a key player in facilitating religious travel from Iraq, leveraging its strategic fleet choices to meet the specific needs of its future passengers. As the airline finalizes preparations for its 2024 launch, the aviation industry watches closely to see how this new entrant will impact the landscape of religious and charter flight services in the region.
