ITA Airways, based in Rome Fiumicino, celebrates a significant milestone with the delivery of its first A220-100, EI-HLA (msn 50068). The aircraft, which made its journey directly from Montréal Mirabel to Rome Fiumicino on October 31-November 1, 2023, is now in operation on the coveted Milan Linate-London City route, showcasing the airline’s commitment to providing efficient and high-yielding connections.

The A220-100 was subsequently repositioned to Milan Linate on November 2 and seamlessly transitioned into revenue service with its inaugural flight to London City on November 3. This dedicated aircraft, configured for up to 125 passengers in a single-class layout, signifies ITA Airways’ strategic focus on optimizing travel experiences for its passengers.

ITA Airways has six more A220-100s on direct order from Airbus, reinforcing the airline’s dedication to modernizing its fleet. As the third global operator of this variant, following Swiss and Delta Air Lines, ITA Airways continues to position itself at the forefront of aviation technology. The airline also manages a fleet of seven A220-300s on lease from Air Lease Corporation, with plans to acquire an additional nine units of the same type from the esteemed lessor. Notably, the A220-300, while integral to ITA Airways’ fleet, does not hold certification for operations at London City Airport.

Before the arrival of EI-HLA, ITA Airways temporarily enlisted the services of an E190 from Eastern Airways (Humberside) to maintain operations on the London City route. With up to three daily flights, this route underscores ITA Airways’ commitment to offering convenient and flexible travel options for passengers.

The introduction of the A220-100 marks a pivotal moment for ITA Airways, aligning with its vision of modernization, operational efficiency, and elevated passenger experiences. The airline looks ahead to further expanding its presence and enhancing connectivity with the addition of more A220 aircraft to its growing fleet.
