ITA Airways Plans to Launch Chicago O’Hare and Toronto Pearson flights in 2024 from Rome
ITA Airways, the Italian carrier, has unveiled plans to launch two significant North American routes in 2024. Starting from April 7, 2024, the airline will operate 6x-weekly flights between Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, with plans to increase to daily flights from June 2024. Additionally, from May 1, 2024, ITA Airways will begin service between FCO and Toronto Pearson International Airport, initially with a 6x-weekly frequency and later increasing to daily flights in June.
Emiliana Limosani, ITA’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the airline’s expansion plans for the summer of 2024, with a particular focus on North America. ITA Airways also has plans to add several other routes for the northern hemisphere’s 2024 summer season, including flights from FCO to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (starting May 2024); Accra, Ghana, and Kuwait (beginning in June 2024); and Dakar, Senegal (commencing July 2024).
ITA Airways operates a fleet of 79 Airbus aircraft, including A320neos, A220-300s, A330-900s, and A350-900s, with plans to receive its first A321neo by the end of the year. The airline reported carrying 11 million passengers in the first nine months of 2023, with an average load factor of 80%. In addition to the newly announced routes, ITA Airways opened new routes to San Francisco and Washington Dulles from FCO during the 2023 summer season, further expanding its North American presence.
The carrier’s continued expansion reflects its commitment to strengthening its international network and offering increased connectivity for passengers traveling to and from Italy.
