Japan Airlines to Start 767 Freighter Operations in Mid 2024
Japan Airlines (JAL) is gearing up to launch dedicated freighter operations with B767-300ER(BCF) aircraft from February 19, 2024, subject to government approval. The move marks JAL’s return to the dedicated freighter segment after a hiatus of 13 years. The airline plans to introduce three B767 freighters to its fleet, with details yet to be disclosed.
The first B767 freighter in line for JAL is JA653J (msn 40365), a 13.02-year-old B767-300(ER) undergoing conversion at Singapore Paya Lebar. Additionally, two other B767-300(ER) aircraft, JA654J (msn 40366) and JA619J (msn 37550), are stationed at Singapore Paya Lebar and Guangzhou, respectively. These aircraft will be converted for freighter operations to bolster JAL’s air transportation capabilities and enhance its logistics infrastructure.
The scheduled freighter operations are slated to connect Tokyo Narita and Nagoya Chubu with key destinations including Taipei Taoyuan, Seoul Incheon, and Shanghai Pudong. JAL emphasizes that the move to operate dedicated freighters is aimed at meeting the growing demand for air cargo and ensuring a stable and flexible air transportation network. The airline plans to develop a network strategy aligned with customer needs, contributing to the sustainable growth of the logistics sector.
The B767 freighter operations are expected to play a crucial role in strengthening JAL’s cargo services and providing reliable air transportation solutions. The commencement of these operations signifies the airline’s commitment to adapting to market demands and further expanding its cargo capabilities in the evolving aviation landscape.
