Jet2 has revealed plans to open a new base at London-Luton Airport (LTN) starting in the summer of 2025. The UK’s largest tour operator and third-largest airline will station two new Airbus A321neo aircraft at the airport, which will create hundreds of new jobs, including positions for pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and ground operations staff.

This move is a direct response to high demand from customers and independent travel agents in the region. In its first summer of operations from London-Luton, Jet2 will fly to 17 destinations across Europe, including the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Mainland Spain, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Madeira. The airline will operate up to 36 weekly flights from the airport, with routes including popular destinations like Palma de Mallorca, Faro, and Antalya. However, three exclusive routes to Girona, Madeira, and Verona will be offered solely by Jet2.

The first Jet2 flight from London-Luton is scheduled to depart on April 1, 2025. This marks the airline’s 13th UK base, further expanding its presence across the country. CEO Steve Heapy expressed excitement about the new base, noting that there has been a longstanding demand for Jet2 services at London-Luton, and he looks forward to offering the airline’s award-winning service to more customers in the south of England.

“This latest expansion reflects our strategy to be the UK’s leading and best leisure travel business and it underlines the confidence we have,” Heapy said. “As well as signaling great news for holidaymakers, today is also a major boost for the local economy as our significant investment includes the creation of over 125 jobs initially.”

The move also marks a significant investment for London-Luton Airport, which serves as a major gateway for travelers in the south of England. The addition of Jet2 to the airport is expected to provide even more choice for passengers, with new job opportunities and benefits for the local supply chain.

Alberto Martin, CEO of London-Luton Airport, welcomed Jet2’s arrival, noting that the expansion would be exciting for the millions of passengers who fly from the airport each year. He emphasized that the addition of 17 new routes, including exclusive destinations, would strengthen the airport’s position and further enhance its commitment to providing a friendly passenger experience.

The new base at London-Luton is part of Jet2’s broader expansion strategy in southern England, which began with operations from Bristol Airport in 2021, followed by a base at Bournemouth Airport in February 2024. The airline also opened a base at Liverpool Airport earlier in 2024.

Jet2 currently operates a fleet of 123 aircraft, including Boeing 737-800s, Boeing 757-200s, and Airbus A321s, with plans to retire its remaining Boeing 757s by winter 2024 as it continues to add new A321neos to its fleet. This expansion at London-Luton Airport represents a significant milestone in Jet2’s growth and a major boost for the local economy, creating new opportunities for both passengers and employees alike.
