Jet2 flight diverted after elderly passenger attacks crew over lack of champagne
Tempers bubbled over on a Jet2 flight after an elderly passenger attacked cabin crew over an argument about the lack of free champagne..
The incident occurred on Flight LS189 as it was flying to Rhodes International Airport Diagoras (RHO) in Greece from Manchester Airport (MAN) on August 22, 2022.
The flight had to be diverted to Munich when a passenger, a woman believed to be in her 70s, became irate when she was refused free champagne.
UK media outlet Daily Record said that the passenger settled for a gin and tonic, but the drink was taken away from her when she continued to be aggressive towards the cabin crew.
A passenger on the flight was able to record the incident and upload it to social media platform, TikTok.
An anonymous passenger told UK media outlet The Mirror that the woman also urinated in her seat before being escorted off the plane in Germany by nine police officers.
“Upon arrival at Munich she was escorted off the plane by around nine police officers along with an ambulance and fire services. We were in Germany for over two hours. Jet2 handled this situation really well and the captain of the plane gave everyone complimentary drinks,” the passenger said.
A Jet2 spokesperson gave a statement to The Mirror. “We can confirm that flight LS819 from Manchester to Rhodes was diverted to Munich Airport yesterday so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded.
“We would like to apologize to customers for this unforeseen delay and any inconvenience caused. The health and safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority and, as a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior.
The airline continued: “We will not hesitate to vigorously pursue any costs incurred as a result of this diversion.”
