On April 1, 2025, British leisure airline Jet2, along with its in-house tour operator Jet2holidays, inaugurated its 13th UK base by commencing passenger operations from London-Luton Airport. This milestone launch features two new Airbus A321neo aircraft stationed at the airport, and the airline anticipates operating up to 36 rotations per week, connecting travelers with a variety of European and Mediterranean holiday destinations. The decision to expand operations at London-Luton follows the recent launch of a new base at Bournemouth Airport in February 2025, underscoring Jet2’s ongoing commitment to growing its presence in the South of England.

The inaugural flight, designated LS3863 and operated by an A321neo with the registration G-SUNG, departed London-Luton at 08:39 on Tuesday, April 1, bound for Palma Airport in Majorca, Spain. Shortly thereafter, the second flight, flight LS375 operated by A321neo G-SUNF, took off for Tenerife, marking the beginning of an ambitious schedule that will serve 17 destinations across the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, mainland Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Madeira throughout the summer season. During its first season at London-Luton, the carrier will offer over 430,000 seats, demonstrating its robust growth strategy that has driven success over recent years.

The launch was celebrated with a day of festivities at London-Luton Airport, where Jet2 extended a red carpet welcome to its customers at check-in. Personalized gifts were handed out to passengers, with the very first check-ins receiving free flight vouchers, while one fortunate traveler was awarded a seven-night holiday in Turkey by the airline’s CEO, Steve Heapy. The arrival celebrations also featured live entertainment, including a traditional Spanish guitarist who entertained passengers waiting to board the first flight to Palma. This festive atmosphere reflected Jet2’s commitment to a family-friendly ethos, exceptional value in package holidays, and award-winning customer service, all of which have become hallmarks of the airline.

According to Steve Heapy, the expansion into London-Luton is a significant achievement that builds on the carrier’s strong reputation and previous successes. Heapy emphasized the airline’s excitement about delivering its well-regarded service to holidaymakers across the region and expressed confidence in the new base’s potential for success. The launch not only strengthens Jet2’s footprint at London-Luton but also complements its existing operations at London-Stansted Airport and the newly opened base at Bournemouth, positioning the airline as a major player in the UK leisure travel market.

The establishment of the new base has brought substantial economic benefits to the region, with the creation of more than 125 new jobs spanning roles such as flight deck and cabin crew, engineers, and ground operations staff. Looking ahead, Jet2 has already reported a phenomenal response to its first Winter 2025/26 program from London-Luton, with plans to operate flights to eight popular winter sun destinations. This upcoming winter season will feature over 140,000 seats on 19 weekly flights, further enhancing connectivity for travelers seeking escape from the colder months. With this strategic expansion, Jet2 reaffirms its dedication to providing outstanding value and service, ensuring that holidaymakers from across the region have access to a growing network of attractive destinations.
