JetBlue Airways has signed a significant 12-month agreement with World Fuel Services, based in Florida, to introduce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its flights departing from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This initiative marks a key step in JetBlue’s sustainability efforts.

Under the agreement, Texas-based Valero Energy Corp. will supply the SAF blend. JetBlue anticipates receiving a minimum of 1 million gallons of SAF, with an option to acquire up to 4 million additional gallons. World Fuel Services will handle the logistics and distribution of this blended SAF, utilizing existing infrastructure such as the Colonial Pipeline, which stretches approximately 5,500 miles from Houston to Linden, New Jersey.

JetBlue has expressed its commitment to expanding SAF usage in the Northeast and aims to build a robust SAF market in New York through partnerships with other local businesses. Sara Bogdan, JetBlue’s Managing Director of Sustainability and Environmental Social Governance, emphasized the importance of leveraging Valero’s expertise and existing jet fuel distribution networks to maximize the program’s impact.

This move aligns with JetBlue’s long-term goals of enhancing its environmental sustainability. The announcement follows United Airlines’ recent initiative to use SAF produced by Neste at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, expanding its SAF usage to five major airports.

By integrating SAF into its operations at JFK, JetBlue is taking a crucial step towards reducing its carbon footprint and advancing the aviation industry’s sustainability goals.
