Jetstar has announced a significant expansion of its operations in Western Australia, highlighted by the opening of a new aircraft and pilot base in Perth and the launch of a third new service connecting Perth to Asia. This expansion marks the largest growth in the carrier’s Perth operations to date.

On September 2, 2024, Jetstar officially opened its new base at Perth Airport, accommodating up to 60 pilots and supporting the airline’s growing fleet. The carrier also revealed plans to introduce four new Airbus A321neo LR aircraft to its fleet by 2029, enhancing its capacity and operational efficiency.

In addition to the new base, Jetstar has relocated its domestic services from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 at Perth Airport. This move is designed to improve passenger convenience by allowing seamless transfers between Jetstar’s domestic and international flights, eliminating the need for a shuttle bus between terminal precincts.

Starting September 6, 2024, Jetstar will begin operating flights between Perth (PER) and Bangkok (BKK), offering up to four weekly services on this new route. The decision to add Bangkok to its network comes on the heels of the successful launch of new services between Perth and Singapore, as well as Perth and Phuket, in August 2024.

“Strong demand continues for low fares flying, and we’ll offer more than 300,000 new low-fare seats a year with these new flights between Perth and Singapore, Phuket, and Bangkok,” said Stephanie Tully, Jetstar Group CEO, in a press release. “Last year, we flew more than 370,000 customers between Perth and Bali, so we know West Australians can’t get enough of Asia, and we’re confident these new flights will be just as popular.”

Jetstar’s expansion reflects the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for affordable travel options between Australia and Asia. With the addition of these new routes, Jetstar’s network now includes 17 destinations, such as Colombo in Sri Lanka and Okinawa in Japan.

The introduction of the new Airbus A321neo LR aircraft will further enhance Jetstar’s ability to offer low-cost fares while maintaining efficiency and sustainability in its operations. These aircraft are known for their fuel efficiency and extended range, making them well-suited for the airline’s long-haul routes.

Jetstar’s expanded presence in Perth and its growing network of destinations underscore the airline’s strategic focus on the Asia-Pacific region. As travel demand continues to rebound, Jetstar is positioning itself to capitalize on the increasing interest in travel between Australia and Asia, offering more choices and greater convenience for travelers.

With the opening of the new base and the launch of additional routes, Jetstar is set to play a pivotal role in connecting Western Australia to key Asian destinations, supporting both tourism and business travel. This expansion is expected to significantly boost the airline’s operations and further solidify its position as a leading low-cost carrier in the region.
