Jetstar is expanding its international footprint from Australia with the launch of direct flights between Newcastle and Bali, scheduled to begin on October 21. This marks the first regularly scheduled international route from Newcastle Airport since 2020, significantly enhancing regional connectivity. The new service will operate three times per week using Airbus A321LR aircraft, offering more than 70,000 seats annually.

This launch follows Jetstar’s recent announcement of a new Gold Coast–Bali route set to begin in August, reinforcing Bali’s status as the airline’s most popular international destination. Currently, Jetstar operates around 100 weekly flights to Bali, highlighting continued strong demand for travel between Australia and Indonesia. The addition of Newcastle–Bali flights not only serves the leisure travel market but also supports the airport’s long-term goal of expanding international services for regional travelers.

In neighboring New Zealand, Air New Zealand is preparing to introduce a new twice-weekly seasonal route between Christchurch and Adelaide, marking the first-ever direct commercial air link between the two cities. Flights will operate from October 27 to March 28, 2026, departing Christchurch on Friday evenings and returning from Adelaide on Monday mornings. The route is expected to add more than 15,000 seats over the summer travel season and support both tourism and business travel. Adelaide Airport Managing Director Brenton Cox noted that nearly 50,000 travelers currently make the journey via indirect routes annually, indicating strong demand for nonstop service.

Meanwhile, Volotea is strengthening its Bordeaux base in France with the addition of a third Airbus A320 and the launch of four new routes. This expansion increases the airline’s capacity from the base by 35% year-over-year, totaling 1.2 million seats across 38 destinations in 2025.

In further airline partnership developments, Turkish Airlines and Thai Airways signed a joint business agreement at the IATA AGM in New Delhi. The agreement builds on Thai’s daily service between Bangkok and Istanbul, which began in December 2023.

Edelweiss is also growing its international network with the launch of two new seasonal routes from Zurich to Seattle and Bristol. The Zurich–Seattle service operates twice weekly through September 15 using a 314-seat Airbus A340, marking Seattle as Edelweiss’ fourth U.S. destination. Zurich–Bristol flights are also running twice weekly, strengthening links to southwest England.
