Korean Air has officially joined the Airbus A350 Family, finalizing a firm order for 33 A350 aircraft. The deal comprises 27 of the larger A350-1000 models along with six A350-900s, marking a substantial endorsement of the A350’s capabilities in long-range operations.

The Airbus A350, renowned for its unmatched range, will allow Korean Air to maintain its extensive intercontinental routes with a remarkable 25% decrease in both fuel consumption and carbon emissions, in comparison to the aircraft currently in use. This efficiency leap not only aligns with global environmental goals but also opens potential avenues for the airline to explore new long-haul destinations.

Jason Yoo, Chief Safety and Operating Officer and Executive Vice President at Korean Air, emphasized the A350’s alignment with the airline’s strategic vision. “The A350’s exceptional range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort make it a superb addition to our global network. We anticipate that incorporating the A350 into our fleet will not only enhance operational efficiencies but also significantly elevate our passengers’ travel experience.”

Echoing this sentiment, Benoit de Saint Exupéry, EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, highlighted the significance of this partnership. “Korean Air’s order is a strong vote of confidence in the A350 as the leading choice for long-range travel. The airline stands to gain unparalleled efficiency and reduced environmental impact, setting a new standard in their in-flight service and product offering. We are grateful for Korean Air’s trust in Airbus and are excited to see the A350 adorned in Korean Air’s iconic livery.”

The Airbus A350 Family is at the forefront of modern widebody aircraft design, recognized globally as the leader in long-range travel. Capable of flying up to 9,700 nm or 18,000 km non-stop, the A350 leverages the latest advancements in Rolls-Royce engines and utilizes advanced materials such as composites, titanium, and modern aluminium alloys. This innovation results in a lighter, more cost-efficient aircraft with a 25% average reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions compared to similar-sized previous-generation aircraft.

As of the end of February, the A350 Family has secured 1,240 orders from 59 customers worldwide, further cementing its status as a game-changer in the aviation industry.
