Kuehne+Nagel charters AN-124 for Ukraine relief flight

Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) has chartered an AN-124 from Antonov to carry aid to Ukraine.

The AN-124 took off from Sharjah on March 29 carrying 111 tonnes of aid sourced from UNICEF’s warehouse in Dubai and landed in Poland the same evening. The goods will then be trucked to Ukraine.

The flight was part of the forwarder’s pledge to offer emergency aid to Ukraine worth SFr10m in the form of logistics services.

K+N’s emergency and relief logistics team in Copenhagen has been partnering with large humanitarian aid organisations to set up critical aid missions funded by this donation.

Detlef Trefzger, chief executive, Kuehne+Nagel International, said: “Thanks to our long-standing, trusted partnership with UNICEF, we were able to very quickly set up a critical aid campaign for Ukraine in a jointly manner.

“It is symbolic in itself that today we can make one of the largest deliveries of aid to Ukraine with a Ukrainian Antonov airplane. I am grateful to our partners, stakeholders and all our Kuehne+Nagel colleagues who support our pledge to the Ukrainian people.”

The forwarder added that staff have set up initiatives in offices and warehouses around the globe to support Ukrainians affected by the crisis.

“Numerous customers have relied on our teams to transport donations,” the company added.
