Lack of Black brewers is a microcosm of all US industries
Recent data shows that Black people make up 12% of the beer consumer market yet only account for 1% of brewers, a disparity that could be addressed if access to capital was increased and if those on the higher echelons of the industry used their privilege to address this imbalance, according to Black brewers Arthur Moye and Roger Apollon Jr. “What this tells me is that the beverage industry is a reflection of almost all American industries,” says Apollon.
