LATAM Airlines Group Hits Record Passenger Numbers in 2024
LATAM Airlines Group has reported record-breaking growth in 2024, transporting an impressive 82 million passengers over the 12-month period ending December 31, 2024. This remarkable 11% increase compared to 2023 marks the highest passenger count in the carrier’s history and reflects a dramatic rebound in Latin American air travel since the pandemic.
Across its various networks, LATAM achieved strong results on multiple fronts. In its Spanish-speaking domestic markets—including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru—the airline carried 31.1 million passengers, an 11.1% increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, in LATAM’s core Brazilian domestic market, the carrier recorded 34.84 million passengers, up 5.6% compared to 2023. However, it was in the international arena where the airline experienced the most robust growth, with 16.06 million international passengers—a surge of 24.3% compared to last year. In December 2024 alone, the airline transported 7.3 million passengers, reflecting a 5.4% increase over the same month in 2023.
This strong performance was driven by LATAM’s strategic expansion of its international network and enhanced capacity across the group’s operations. The carrier attributed much of its impressive growth to the 10.9% rise in overall network capacity measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), with its international offering expanding by 16.1% through the introduction of larger aircraft, new routes, and increased frequencies. New international routes launched during 2024 include flights from Lima to Montego Bay and Rosario, as well as services linking Santiago de Chile with Bariloche, Recife, and Punta del Este. These new connections have significantly strengthened LATAM’s transcontinental network, catering to both leisure and business travelers while contributing to an annual capacity growth of 15.1% over 2023.
Alongside its passenger services, LATAM Group also reported notable gains in its cargo operations. In December 2024, the carrier’s cargo segment experienced an 11.8% increase in capacity, measured in available ton-kilometers (ATKs), reaching a total of 747 million ATKs. This growth underscores LATAM’s dedication to diversifying its revenue streams and improving service across all segments of its operations.
The airline’s record performance in 2024 is a testament to the rapid recovery and robust growth of the Latin American market. As personal wealth levels continue to rise and national economic growth remains strong across the continent, LATAM is well-positioned to replicate its success in 2025. The carrier plans to continue investing in new aircraft and expanding its global route network in the coming year while ensuring that operational efficiencies and an enhanced passenger experience remain top priorities.
According to ch-aviation, the LATAM Group fleet currently consists of 345 aircraft, which include 40 Airbus A319s, 165 A320/A320neos, 63 A321/A321neos, 30 Boeing 767-300s and -300Fs, ten Boeing 777-300ERs, and 37 Boeing 787-8s and 787-9s. Notably, LATAM Brasil and LATAM Chile are among the largest airline members in the Group, boasting 154 and 164 aircraft, respectively.
With a continued focus on expanding its international network and upgrading its fleet, LATAM Airlines Group is set to further solidify its market leadership and continue its impressive growth trajectory in 2025 and beyond.
