LATAM Airlines Selects Pratt & Whitney Engines for Airbus A320neo Fleet
LATAM Airlines, the largest airline group in Latin America, has chosen Pratt & Whitney to develop engines for its remaining Airbus A320neo orders. The airline group announced the decision on June 7, 2023, saying that it will equip its 166 Airbus A320neo aircraft with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines.
The decision follows LATAM’s initial order in 2013, where it selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for 42 Airbus A320neo aircraft. The airline group has since increased its order to 208 aircraft, making it one of the largest customers of the Airbus A320neo family in the world.
The Pratt & Whitney GTF engine is a next-generation engine that offers significant advantages over conventional engines, such as lower fuel consumption, lower emissions, lower noise, and lower maintenance costs. The engine is designed to reduce fuel burn by up to 16%, carbon emissions by up to 50%, and noise footprint by up to 75%.
LATAM Airlines said that the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine will help the airline group achieve its sustainability goals and enhance its operational efficiency and competitiveness. The airline group also said that the engine will provide a superior passenger experience and comfort.
