On August 2, 2023, LATAM Launches Direct Flight from Sao Paulo Guarulhos to Los Angeles International (LAX).

LATAM Airlines, in partnership with Delta Airlines, has initiated an exclusive nonstop route between Sao Paulo Guarulhos (GRU) and Los Angeles International (LAX). This collaboration marks the first-ever joint venture flight connecting the United States and Brazil. Additionally, this route stands as the sole direct air link currently available between California and Brazil.

Operating three times a week, the flight schedule is as follows: Departing from LAX at 1:15pm local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arriving in Sao Paulo at 05:15am local time. Conversely, the GRU to LAX flight departs at 11:20pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with an arrival time of 7:35am (all times specified in local time).

Initially, this service will utilize a Boeing 777 aircraft configured with a three-class cabin layout. This includes 38 Business, 50 premium economy (‘Economy+’), and 322 economy class seats. Plans are in motion to transition to a more compact aircraft, the Boeing 787-9, starting November 2023. This newer configuration will offer 30 Business, 57 premium economy, and 213 economy class seats.

Prior to this direct route, LATAM had previously routed California-bound passengers through Lima, Peru (LIM), or Santiago de Chile (SCL), adding at least four hours to the travel time. With this newly established nonstop service, the journey duration between the two major cities will be significantly reduced to just 12 hours.

This venture is a significant addition to LATAM’s US operations, expanding its existing presence in Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), New York (JFK), and Boston (BOS).

Simultaneously, alongside this milestone announcement, LATAM has unveiled its Q2 2023 financial results, showcasing a $45 million profit derived from $2.68 billion in revenue. These figures demonstrate an impressive increase of more than 20% compared to the same period in 2022.
