LATAM Airlines has initiated a significant cabin refurbishment program for 24 of its Boeing 787 Dreamliners, aiming to enhance the passenger fleet and onboard experience. This ambitious upgrade, valued at $360 million, commenced in September 2024 and includes new seats, advanced onboard entertainment systems, and comprehensive design enhancements.

A key feature of the refurbishment is the introduction of a new Premium Business cabin, which will showcase the innovative Recaro R7 Suite seats (formerly known as CL6720). These seats, developed by Recaro Aircraft Seating, are engineered to provide enhanced privacy, personal space, and superior comfort for passengers. Additionally, the upgrade will incorporate privacy doors, making LATAM the first airline group in South America to offer this exclusive feature. This advancement underscores LATAM’s commitment to leading the industry in passenger comfort and luxury.

In Economy class, LATAM is undertaking a complete refurbishment of seats to offer ergonomically designed seating that provides more space and increased comfort for travelers. The Economy Plus section will also see significant improvements, catering to passengers who desire additional legroom, greater recline, footrests, and exclusive luggage space. These enhancements are part of LATAM’s strategy to deliver a more personalized and comfortable travel experience across all cabin classes.

Out of the 24 aircraft undergoing refurbishment, 10 are Boeing 787-8s dedicated to the Chilean domestic market, while the remaining 14 are Boeing 787-9s operating routes in Chile, Brazil, and Peru. This targeted upgrade plan highlights LATAM’s focus on strengthening its presence in key South American markets and meeting the growing demand for high-quality air travel in the region.

Paulo Miranda, Vice President of Customers at LATAM Airlines Group, stated, “With a design that reflects the unique essence of the LATAM Group and attention to the finest details, our new cabins have been created to offer a world-class travel experience.” He further emphasized, “The new Premium Business seats mark a significant leap forward, combining comfort, privacy, and elegance. These renovations position LATAM as a leader in the industry, providing our passengers with an unprecedented level of comfort and an exclusive flying experience.”

The refurbishment process for the Boeing 787-8s is set to begin commercial operations on March 1, 2025. LATAM Airlines plans to complete the retrofit of all 24 aircraft by mid-2026, with the work being carried out at maintenance bases in São Carlos, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. Each aircraft retrofit is expected to take between one to three months, ensuring minimal disruption to flight schedules while enhancing the overall passenger experience.

In addition to the cabin upgrades, LATAM Airlines is continuously investing in its fleet to maintain its competitive edge in the aviation market. The introduction of the Recaro R7 Suite seats and the comprehensive refurbishment of Economy and Economy Plus cabins are part of LATAM’s broader initiative to improve passenger satisfaction and loyalty.

LATAM Airlines’ dedication to upgrading its Boeing 787 fleet demonstrates its commitment to providing exceptional service and comfort to its passengers. By investing in state-of-the-art cabin features and enhancing the overall travel experience, LATAM aims to solidify its position as a leading airline in South America and beyond.
