Latvia-based wet lease operator SmartLynx Airlines is set to introduce the Boeing 737 MAX to its fleet. The airline has signed a leasing agreement with aviation lessor SMBC Aviation Capital to acquire two 737 MAX 8s. The aircraft are scheduled to join the SmartLynx fleet in April, with further type additions on the horizon for the summer.

SmartLynx Airlines will add two Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets to its fleet as it explores “new market opportunities.” The wet lease specialist will introduce the two Boeing aircraft to its fleet in April to help it cope with growing market demand.

SMBC Aviation Capital is one of the largest aviation lessors in the world, and stated that deliveries are already underway. The Japanese-owned lessor is headquartered in Dublin and boasts a portfolio of over 730 aircraft. This deal will represent the first leasing agreement between SmartLynx and SMBC.
